Time passes.
The weekdays have been pretty predictable. Calorie targets between 1600 and 1800 per day, with around 40% protein and a rough balance of good fats and good carbs for the rest. A Quest bar at breakfast for protein and fiber; Shakeology at lunch. meals look a lot like boiled eggs, turkey meat loaf, baby spinach, baby carrots, green beans, hummus, arugula garden salad with an olive oil and lemon juice mix. 16-24 cups of water a day. The occasional protein supplement of Isopure whey isolates or Syntha-6. Evenings after work, go to the pool and do two sessions of Focus T25. In the pool the most effective butt-kickers are Speed 1.0 and Cardio.
Generally eat within targets on Sundays, but the first two Saturdays we ate out, and I had a bit much at one meal. I steer clear of sodas, but I have indulged in a biscuit or roll or garlic naan. When not eating bread the other six days, it’s a surprisingly rich treat, so I don’t overdo it. I try to stay under 2500 calories on Saturdays.
My weigh-in on week two was slightly lower than week 1: 439.0. The past few days I’ve seen larger losses. Was 433.6 this morning.
My goal for the thirty days is 30 pounds – to be under 420. Whether or not I reach it, I intend to continue; my weight gains have halted, I’ve lost more than half of what I’ve gained this year, and my workout and food consistency is back. I feel stronger and I have more flexibility. It’s working, so onward.
I signed up to be a Beach Body coach, for the discount. I dislike MLM, but if my wife decides to get into Shakeology it will save us a few bucks. I suppose it’s possible I’ll one day be one of those “I lost 200+ pounds doing Tsunami Fitness, click here for more info!” folks, but if I do I’m more likely to write a book. I’ve read my share of others’ journeys. They can be inspiring, or interesting, or in some cases disturbing (Tim Ferris’ Four Hour Body comes to mind – he rides his own body like Jeremy Clarkson on Top Gear), but I’ve never found my own success by following theirs in lockstep. But I have sometimes picked up tips that did help me.
But that’s getting way ahead of the story. This is still Week 3 of a journey that could take more than a year – and if you count my big leap last year, is well into its second year already. Right now I’m taking it a day at a time, with Saturday tape measuring and a 30 day marker.
