The First Fifty Years

This blog is like its starting title: the beginning of a journey.  The first post is new snow: wherever you step, you leave a mark that will last…but not forever. Snow melts, and that first step will eventually be nestled into a corner of your mind, as more recent steps and the view ahead take priority.

I decided to make this about journeys: the ones I’ve taken, and those I take as I go.   I have the preoccupations of many my age: health, relationships, finances, knowledge, experiences. And diversions, our daily traveling companions.

When the Web was young, so was I – well, young enough. I had a website up in 1995, but for my own amusement. I didn’t expect an audience. For a while, I had one.  But times changed, the show I was writing about ended, I found a new job, and the impulse to maintain my own site dwindled.  If you want an audience, there’s plenty to find at the big social media sites.

But this blog isn’t looking for an audience. In a way it’s a return to my roots: a corner of the Web that I can explore for my own interests. What interests me at the moment is where I am, and where I want to be.

So, this is where I’ll take note of the journeys I take.  Maybe looking back from time to time, but more about the journey ahead.

One step down.
