First IDM fast

So far, so good on my first fast after signing up with IDM.

My last food was Thursday at 10 pm.  Thursday was such a carb- and sugar-fueled food day, my wife said I smelled like a marshmallow at bedtime. Friday I drank a lot of water, sucked on Himalayan salt, and the only calories I consumed were shots of MCT oil and olive oil, three in all. Total for the day was maybe 400 calories, all fat.

I’d risen early – 4:30a – for the IDM training, and then went to work afterward. By 10pm, I was toast, so I went to bed, waking about 11 hours later. I needed it. Had a disaster pants moment after my chiropractor visit, and another later in the afternoon. I drank a lot of water, some of it with apple cider vinegar (BRAGGS, ‘the one with the mother’), which was on the list of things that were kosher to drink even on fast days. My wife bought a full gallon of the stuff to complement the quart we already had. I should be set for a while.

Slept in this morning, nursing an ice pack. Slept fitfully. Weighed myself at 466 pounds, down twelve since Friday morning.

My stomach still feels like it’s got food from the eating days earlier in the week, but my blood sugar has been showing improvement. 105 this morning, 86 last night. Yesterday morning my blood sugar was 127. I expect blood sugar to be elevated for a long time, but the excess insulin should be burning off a bit at a time.

My goal is to fast at least until my Thursday doctor appointment. If they take blood, I’ll be prepared with some nuts. my plan would be to fat fast that day with nuts, avocado mayo, and boiled eggs, then resume.

All in all, I’m pleased that I’ve made it past the 60 hour mark; I’m on my first successful extended fast of the year.  i’ll be halfway through day seven at the doctor appointment, and halfway through day six when I have my first group session with Dr. Nadia. I’d consider that a good start.
